Atlántico Sonoro chooses wood and tree rings as an image to celebrate its twentieth anniversary

Wood is one of the elements present in the Festival Atlántico Sonoro, through the sculpture that recycles this material and proposes an ephemeral work of art, by the artist Luigi Stinga. Also this year, a large-format figure will be built, which can be visited from Saturday 13 July until 13 August, at the Mirador del Almendrillo, in Vallehermoso, La Gomera. Atlantico Sonoro is rolling out its programme in Tenerife and the island of La Gomera, through which it will showcase the talent of Canarian creators from a wide range of disciplines. On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary, the Festival poster, the work of Arón Morales, chooses the rings that help to determine the age of a tree, as the image of an initiative that has become a benchmark for the dissemination of popular Canarian culture. The central image, by means of a play of light, rises against a background in which the silhouette of Roque Cano bears witness to the history of this festival.

With free admission to all activities, until full capacity is reached, this special edition, which celebrates its 20th anniversary, the Festival, created and produced by Cauproges, is an event financed through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, integrated in the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism (‘Next Generation EU Funds’). It is supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, Promotur Turismo de Canarias S.A. and Instituto Canario de Desarrollo Cultural S.A., Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Cabildo de La Gomera, Ayuntamiento de Vallehermoso, and with the collaboration of Ayuntamiento de Tacoronte, Asociación Cultural Silbo Gomero and Fundación Foresta.

Ephemeral art at the Almendrillo viewpoint

From 13 July until 13 August, visitors and residents can enjoy the large-scale recycled wood sculpture created by Luigi Stinga at the Mirador del Almendrillo in Vallehermoso for this 20th edition of the festival. This artist has become a regular at the Festival, where he creates temporary and ephemeral pieces, with which he approaches tradition from a unique contemporary artistic expression.

Luigi Stinga has followed the family tradition and has combined his experience in Italy with his father, Vicenzo Stinga, with the academic training he received at Belle Arti di Roma. He has approached creations from multiple disciplines and has experimented with different creative techniques, both from the world of decoration and the more purist artistic fields. Painting, sculpture, design and scenography come together in an exclusive piece, which visitors and residents will discover in this 2024 edition of Atlántico Sonoro.

Creator and cultural manager

Vallehermoso, the epicentre of the Festival's activities, is also the municipality where Arón Morales, the author of the poster for this 20th edition, was born. A cultural manager from the University of La Laguna, he has a degree in History from the University of Granada and a degree in Design and Illustration from the Fernando Estévez School of Art. Morales currently combines his teaching work with cultural management and his creations as a musician and illustrator.
